Cape Town Girl Style in Fort Lauderdale

My favorite South African transplant and all around super-human Emma Batchelder, aka Postcards from Emma, has always had a keen eye when spotting the chicest of design and eclectic flair, all while outsmarting the tropics. She is one of my go-to Instagram accounts for fashion inspiration that is great for looking your most ‘babe with flowy dresses, statement jewelry, and sandals. Here are her top picks for favorite labels and why they are tickling her fancy.

Musier Paris – At the moment I am obsessed with this brand. It only launched this year in March 2018 by Anne-Laure Mais. They take inspiration from the new generation of connected and inspired muses and introduce new pieces every two months. They care about quality and manufacture their items in Paris using all natural fibers such as silk, cotton, and viscose. At the moment my favorite piece is their navy ‘Lucie’ dress with the red poppies all over it – it reminds me a little of my old home in England where we wear red poppy pins on Remembrance Day.

Johanna Ortiz – I am completely obsessed with this woman! She studied fashion design in Florida, and after completing her degree returned to her home country of Colombia. My boyfriend (local Miami DJ @djsanticab, one half of the house music brand @slapnticklemiami) is Colombian, and his country has become a major draw and inspiration to me, naturally. Johanna’s designs are bold, colorful, and incredibly feminine – true to Colombian women. Naturally, her style fits the Miami scene to a tee.

Mrs. Mandolin – If you haven’t eaten at Mandolin in the Miami Design District, well then I don’t really know what to say to you other than, go there! This gorgeous Aegean Bistro opened a Mediterranean-inspired lifestyle store early this year, and it is just heaven on earth. You walk in, and it feels as if you are walking into a home. Everything inside is beautiful. Mrs. Mandolin is not a fashion or even a homes store, it is a meeting place, a cafe, a shop and a lifestyle. They sell beautiful home goods (you can buy the coffee cup you drink your latte in!) and of course, some of the most beautiful resort wear clothing. I’d tell you more, but honestly, I could write pages upon pages about this incredible brand. Some of my favorite designers that they stock are Kalita, Innika Choo, Caravana Tulum, and St. Dom Cartagena (a design concept store stocking Colombian designers).

Raye the Label – My absolute favorite shoe label, they recently collaborated with House of Harlow (Nicole Ritchie’s label) too, and have created some beautiful pieces. The ‘Zoey Heel’ is one of my favorites, and available for sale on Revolve (my go-to online shopping staple). I would say I own too many of their shoes but is that really a thing?

Ulla Johnson – Obsessed with Ulla. She takes her inspo from her home in New York mixed with influences from her travels. These pieces are bold statements in terms of design. At the moment I’ve been loving seeing her oversized ruffles and frills. All her pieces are amazing; dresses, tops, pants, even some of her shoes. I love her ‘Vesna’ sandals in ‘Chalk’. She dares to be different n her designs, which is something I really enjoy.

Reformation – This brand is so cool. They make clothing from sustainable materials, rescued deadstock fabrics, and repurposed vintage clothing. They also use Tencel which is manufactured from Eucalyptus trees which grow fast on thick,  low-grade land and only require about five times less land than cotton. Their dresses are beautiful. Last month they introduced a wedding line which is amazing too; think everything brunch dresses through to formal occasions. I adore this label – literally some of the most exquisite dresses I’ve ever seen. We don’t have a store in Miami (yet…you listening Reformation?) as they are mostly CA-based, but NY and MA have a few.

Alexis – The Spring-Summer 2018 line is perfect for us South Florida girls. Loaded with brights, patterns, stripes – these pieces are lightweight and versatile. For example, I’d be happy wearing a romper to the beach, but then going for dinner/drinks in it at Soho Beach House – versatility! She also does the cutest little kids clothes, it’s ridiculous!

Other brands that inspire I’m currently watching and inspire by are: SIR. The Label (no crazy patterns, more neutral colors but still absolutely gorgeous, classic designs.), RĂ©alisation Par, Le Specs (awesome, very fairly priced sunnies), Twelve After Vintage, LPA (Pia Baroncini is my idol – she is unapologetically herself and I think that is pure magic), Cult Gaia (for oversized, statement jewelry), Michelle Mason, Hellessy, Sezane (beach bags and hats!), Amuse Society, For Love and Lemons, Privacy Pls, Beach Riot (Bikinis!), Mgemi (shoes), Mate The Label, and Pas de Deux.
